WOMEN’S SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Many people seeking help from The Kogarah Storehouse are women, particularly mothers with young children. They may initially come for a food parcel or other practical help and, as many are new migrants with little or no family support, their other needs become apparent.
A range of special programs have been established to help meet the needs of these women.
Women's Support Programs

‘Finding My Way Forward’ – for women experiencing domestic family abuse

This is a specialist service provided by highly qualified, experienced D.V. case workers who offer help in three ways.

  1. Individual case management which is strength based and client centred.
  2. A six week therapeutic, educational, structured workshop where women can gain knowledge and understanding in a friendly, safe environment and begin to heal and be empowered to move forward.
  3. A monthly support group meeting for those who have completed the workshop and where women can feel supported and empowered.

There is no cost for any of these services and free child minding is available to ensure all participants obtain the maximum benefit.

Women’s Health & Wellbeing Courses – for mothers with young children

These are special workshops designed to help women with practical information, gain understanding and develop skills as they deal with the struggles of raising young children. A range of topics are presented by experienced, professional facilitators covering the common issues faced by young mothers.

Child minding is available so everyone in the group can be fully involved in the sessions and with the others in the group.

There is no cost for both workshops and the child minding.

Sessions are held on Thursday from 10am to 12.00

Women’s Activity Groups – learn new skills & make a positive contribution

The aim of this group is to give an opportunity for mothers to have a break from their children, learn new skills and meet friends in a safe relaxing environment.

A number of different activities are planned for this group of women, including sewing, jewellery making, floral arranging and yoga.
